Post Basic Perioperative Nursing

OVERVIEW

The Post Basic Perioperative Nursing is a six-month programme designed to equip Registered Nurses with the knowledge, skills, and competencies necessary to work safely and effectively in the perioperative setting. This programme will provide opportunities for nurses to expand their knowledge and skills by integrating theory and perioperative nursing clinical practice in order to engage in clinical decision making, knowledgeable and competence in providing safe and skilful nursing care that prepare them to fulfil their professional career in competitive global market.

 

CAREER PROSPECTS

Nurses will be able to perform pre-assessment and risk management for the surgical patient, assist in the administration of anesthesia, and perform roles such as scrubbing and circulating during a surgical intervention as well as provide immediate post-operative care. There are several routes for theatre nurses to further their careers including in management, education, research and as a surgical care practitioner.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

  • Local candidates registered with Nursing Board Malaysia (NBM)
  • Possess a current Annual Practicing Certificate (APC) for nurses
  • Minimum 2 years clinical working experiences.
  • Possess 3 months experience in the related specialty

 

HEALTH REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be medically fit and free from mental illness, infectious diseases (HIV-AIDS, Hepatitis B and C), epilepsy, genetic disease, drug abuse and etc.
  • Since it is a post basic programme, married student is allowed to enroll into the programme however, the student will be informed that the Institute do not encourage pregnancy during the period of study.
